Call for Abstracts
Art Education Australia is holding a Research Symposium at Monash University's Caulfield campus on Monday 16th November, 2009.The Symposium is an attempt to identify emerging, current or recently completed research in Art Education as a starting point for the dissemination of this research. All of us are working on our respective activities, but few of us know what the others are doing. The symposium offers a forum to present research which is in the developmental stage, ready for comment and critique, but not yet for publication.
Art has now been included in the National Curriculum, although exactly in what form, has not been finalised. The importance of research in art education has become increasingly important as a source of knowledge to feed future developments and shape educational curricula and delivery. The need for the dissemination of this research has never been more pressing. You may be aware that our journal, Australian Art Education, has recently receive an A Plus rating, the highest category of research publication. This reinforces its status as a venue for the publication of papers and its growing standing internationally. The Symposium convenor is exploring possible avenues of publication for papers presented at this session. This may include opportunity to work papers into peer-reviewed journal articles, or participation in a ‘current research’ newssheet circulated via AEAs publication network. The critical focus of this Symposium is to allow opportunity to present and discuss ‘works in progress’, and to provide opportunity for fellow academics to learn of your current thinking, and explore mutual interests through scholarly discussion.
This will be an informal, focused but relaxed event. It is intended to run back-to-back presentations in one venue. Presentations should be planned as a 30 minute paper followed by 15 minutes of questions- a total presentation of 45 minutes. If you wish to present a paper, please submit a 200 word abstract and a brief bio to bernard.hoffert@artdes.monash.edu.au and w.imms@unimelb.edu.au for consideration, by 8 October.
The fee for the Symposium is $150 which includes a catered lunch and morning and afternoon tea. The venue is lecture theatre G1.04 in the Art and Design Building (Building G) on the Caulfield Campus of Monash University.
