Guidelines for Authors

 

Call for contributions

InSEA ART Education VISUAL Journal  IMAG  intends to provide a visual platform, which, in line with the constitution of InSEA, will help foster international cooperation and understanding, and promote creative activity in art through sharing experiences, improving practices, and strengthening the position of art in all educational settings. IMAG is an international, online, Open Access and peer-reviewed e-publication for the identification, publication and dissemination of art education theories and practices through visual methods and media.

Authors are cordially invited to submit proposals for visual essays photo-essays or video-essays. 

The IMAG Editorial Team invites InSEA members, members of InSEA affiliated organizations or prospective members, to submit visual, video or photo essays or short articles containing many images. The contribution may be accompanied by text of between 1000 and 2000 words.  The submission should focus on visual art educational practices, research or teaching in formal or informal contexts. Authors should ensure that the submission relevant to the larger worldwide community of art educators. We encourage submissions with images and in multimedia formats that provide an alternative, experimental and artistic mode of presenting research and praxis. Only InSEA members or members of InSEA affiliated organizations can submit proposals. Potential authors not in such conditions are welcome to submit on the understanding that they must join InSEA in order to have the work published. All proposals should also be accompanied by images in good resolution formats and/or links to video files (low resolution images may be submitted in order to show layout and positioning, but if the submission is accepted, high resolution (300dpi) files will be required).

References should follow APA conventions. The contents of the Journal are licensed under a Creative Commons International Licence 4.0. By submitting the proposal, the authors agree with the terms of that licence. All papers submitted to IMAG are subject to double blind peer-review. The papers are evaluated by members of the editorial board and reviewed as soon as possible (average time for review varies between one to three months). If accepted, the contribution is normally published online three to six months later. Submitted and approved contents might be re-formatted or the layout reconfigured by the editors and our creative directors.

A visual essay (VE) differs from a text-based article in that the former uses a combination of image and text to convey meaning. The visual essay should demonstrate familiarity with the field of art education and key research appropriate to the selected topic. Photography, drawing or computer manipulated images may all be used. A visual essay submission should include the following: 1)Short critical introduction.(This will be a brief summary (c150words) of the essay that helps the viewer understand the VE’s purpose and, crucially, how the VE is located in the field of visual art education research) 2) Images: careful consideration should be paid to the way that the images are sequenced and how they relate to the text to ensure intended meaning is clear); 3) Development: the question; hypothesis or issues of the Study; investigation or experiment; 4) The method(s) or procedures; 5) Result(s) of the Study; investigation or experiment. 6) Evidence of awareness of similar art studies.by including visual quotes; comments or mention on other pertinent paradigms in art, techniques or conventions. 7) Bibliography or, if appropriate, a reference list . 


 

 

 

 IMAG permanent editors invite  InSEA members or members of InSEA  affiliated organizations to submit visual /video/photo essays or  short articles with many images that may be accompanied by a text between  1000 and 2000 words, focus on art educational practice, research and teaching in formal and informal contexts, that is relevant to the larger worldwide community of art educators. We encourage submissions with images and in multimedia formats that provide an alternative, experimental and artistic mode of presenting research and praxis.

Only InSEA members or members of InSEA  affiliated organizations can submit proposals. Potential authors not in such conditions are welcome to submit with the understanding that they must join InSEA in order to have the work published  The total word limit for the Photo-essays and Visual reports is between 1000 and 2000 words, should integrate image and text in a creative way to document, evaluate or reflect on art-based learning activities, events or outcomes. Proposals should include 1) Title; 2) author(s) name and affiliation; 3) keywords or tags; 4) a critical introduction (or an abstract) which should be no less than 150 words and not exceed 250 words in length in English and in the original language, author(s) 5) the proposed layout with images and words not exceeding the established limits. This proposal should also be accompanied with images in good resolution formats and/or links to Video files. References should follow the APA norm. The contents of the magazine are licensed under Creative Commons International Licence 4.0. By submitting the proposal the authors agree with the terms of that licence.

 

How to submit?

We encourage non English-speaking authors to write their essays in  English and in the author's language. 

-Stage 1: Review

Use the Submission Form to send to the guest editor an editable document and a  pdf with images and text for the review process, please include:  Title; Keywords; abstract and main text  in English and in original language if possible. 

 Please do not write the name of the authors in the file.  Video essays should include  links to the videos not the original video files.  

The  proposals are reviewed by two members of the editorial Board. 

- Stage 2 : 

You will receive an email with the  reviewers comments. If your submission is approved or approved with changes, please send the text as a word or doc file  as follows: 

Title 

Author(s); Affiliation (s)

Abstract  and Keywords in English

Email of the contact author

Abstract and Keywords in original Language

Main text in English ( do not include images, only captions)

Main Text in original language if possible  ( do not include images, only captions)

Short Bio (up to 100 words)

Send the images as separate JPG files, images should be between 150  and 300 dpi and large enough to have good resolution. 

 

- Stage 3

The visual essay will proceed to layout , Graphic Editor may contact the authors in that stage. 

Note: Submitted and approved contents might be remixed by the editors and graphic team. 

 

 

 Peer review

All papers submitted to IMAG are subject to peer review. The papers are evaluated by members of the editorial board and refereed within one month (average time for review; might varying from 1 to  three months). Upon acceptance the papers are published online within  3 to  six months. 

Manuscripts submitted to IMAG will be considered for publication with the understanding that the same work has not been published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original work with appropriately cited works of other authors used in the paper. The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication. When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author's obligation to notify the publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper. When a reader discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a paper or book published by InSEA, or have any other complaint about editorial content (plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication and falsification, simultaneous submissions, duplicate publication, overlapping publications, redundant publications, selective reporting, misleading reporting, improper author contribution or attribution, gift authorship, citation manipulation, impact factor manipulation, index/influence measure manipulation, undeclared/fake financial support for publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, etc.), he/she should make a complaint by e-mail to:insea@insea.org 

Policy of screening for plagiarism: Papers submitted to IMAG  will be screened for plagiarism using plagiarism detection tools. IMAG  will immediately reject papers leading to plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
