Gifts in Wills are an important and crucial source of funding, providing lasting support which will help to safeguard InSEA’s ability to enrich more people’s lives now and in the future. Remember InSEA in your will

There are many ways you can make a gift which is both simple and efficient:
Residuary: the amount left over after all other costs, for example, funeral expenses, have been deducted
Pecuniary: a fixed sum of money
Specific: a gift of a particular named item, for example, a painting, building or land
Reversionary: a gift to a loved one for use during his or her lifetime which can then be passed onto a specified charity after this time

Leaving a gift in your will is an effective lasting contribution without any immediate outlay. Legacies left to charities are free from inheritance tax, which means a legacy could result in your tax bill being reduced.

If you have already made a will, you can add an amendment, known as a codicil, which InSEA can provide for you. We do recommend that you consult with your legal advisor when deciding upon making a legacy.

By making a gift to InSEA, you are recognising the work that we do and the difference we make to people’s lives. No gift is too large or too small. Whatever the size, your gift can and will make a difference.

Sunah Kim

Professor in Applied Art Education

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Art holds a unique power to inspire genuine understanding. In such encounters, art becomes a bridge between the individual and the community. Through my journey as an educator, I have continually witnessed the profound connection that emerges when diverse voices share their stories. I believe InSEA has played a vital role in advancing art education and fostering solidarity among colleagues worldwide. In this context, the Asian Regional Council carries a deeply meaningful responsibility: to bridge local communities with the international network and to ensure regional experiences are genuinely heard.

If elected, I will dedicate myself to strengthening cross-cultural research on Asian art education by uniting theory and practice. By examining how art education is shaped within different cultural and social contexts, we can better appreciate the richness of our field and the challenges of sustaining art in schools. Through collaborative research and regional webinars, I hope to create welcoming spaces for Asian art educators to share ideas and learn from one another. I am also committed to sharing the vision of InSEA with educators in Korea and beyond, nurturing a platform for dialogue between East and West. It would be a true privilege to serve this caring community, united by our passion for advancing art education and deepening mutual understanding. I would bring sincere dedication and collaborative leadership, supporting inclusive and thriving art education for all.

Chihiro Tetsuka

Art Education Professor
Meiji Gakuin University, Tokyo • Japan

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I teach art education in a teacher-training program at a university in Japan. My recent research explores inquiry processes and the forms of knowledge developed through arts-based learning, particularly from the perspectives of Arts-Based Research and learning environment design. My first presentation at an InSEA conference was at the Osaka Congress in 2008. Since then, I have continued to value intercultural dialogue and collaborative learning through art education. I have also organized workshops at InSEA regional and international conferences using traditional Japanese art and culture as media for intercultural understanding. Through these experiences, I have witnessed participants from diverse cultural backgrounds share their perspectives with openness and humor, while collaboratively creating new cultural meanings together.

These experiences strengthened my belief in the vision expressed in the InSEA Manifesto (2018): that visual arts education can offer learners of all ages, cultures, and ethnicities multiple perspectives for understanding the world and foster imagination for identifying and addressing social issues. In response to the InSEA “Vision 2050: Futures of Education,” I hope to contribute, together with fellow members, to improving accessibility to art education across the Asian region and promoting well-being through art education. I also hope to help create opportunities for dialogue where members can respectfully share cultural diversity, discuss local and global challenges, and collaboratively explore meaningful solutions.

DiAnna Pantano

Head of Faculty/CL: Art & Design

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Over the past decade, I have worked as a visual arts educator and Art & Design department lead in international schools across South Korea, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and currently Beijing. Living and teaching across the region has reinforced for me how art education can create meaningful spaces for communication, identity, and connection across language and culture. As a current classroom educator, I am interested in serving on the InSEA Asia Regional Council because I value opportunities to strengthen dialogue and collaboration between educators working across varied cultural and educational contexts.

I believe there is real value in creating accessible spaces for exchange between teachers, artists, researchers, and students throughout the region. If elected, I would hope to support greater connection between educators working across different school systems and communities throughout Asia, while continuing to create space for diverse artistic traditions, perspectives, and local voices within international educational conversations. As a practicing educator working directly with students, I would hope to contribute a collaborative and practice-based perspective grounded in contemporary classrooms, student (child, adult, all) engagement, and cross-cultural learning environments.

Hsin-Yi Chao

Associate Professor
National Chung Hsing University • Taiwan

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Dr. Hsin-Yi Chao is an Associate Professor at National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan), working at the intersection of art education, digital humanities, and inclusive cultural practices. She holds a Ph.D. in Architecture and an MFA in Art, and is the Founder and President of the Taiwan Art Beyond Vision Association, where she develops non-visual and multi-sensory approaches to expand access to art for diverse communities. Her work focuses on bridging research, practice, and social impact through inclusive and innovative art education. She has been actively involved in InSEA since 2014, scholarly presenting at World Congresses and contributing to international dialogue. She has served as Treasurer (2022-2024), Secretary (2024-2025), and currently Chair (2025~) of the Asia Regional Council, where she has organized regional online/onsite congresses in 2024 and 2026, and several webinars to strengthen connections across Asia.

Dr. Chao seeks to continue serving on the Asia Regional Council because she believes Asia plays a vital role in shaping the future of global art education. The region’s cultural diversity and rapid educational transformation present opportunities for deeper collaboration and shared learning. If elected, she aims to strengthen regional networks, support inclusive and accessible practices, and expand interdisciplinary exchange across art, technology, and education. She is committed to creating more opportunities for members to connect, share knowledge, and gain international visibility. Her goal is to foster a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable art education community in Asia, while amplifying the region’s voice within the global InSEA network.
