Gifts in Wills are an important and crucial source of funding, providing lasting support which will help to safeguard InSEA’s ability to enrich more people’s lives now and in the future. Remember InSEA in your will
There are many ways you can make a gift which is both simple and efficient:
Residuary: the amount left over after all other costs, for example, funeral expenses, have been deducted
Pecuniary: a fixed sum of money
Specific: a gift of a particular named item, for example, a painting, building or land
Reversionary: a gift to a loved one for use during his or her lifetime which can then be passed onto a specified charity after this time
Leaving a gift in your will is an effective lasting contribution without any immediate outlay. Legacies left to charities are free from inheritance tax, which means a legacy could result in your tax bill being reduced.
If you have already made a will, you can add an amendment, known as a codicil, which InSEA can provide for you. We do recommend that you consult with your legal advisor when deciding upon making a legacy.
By making a gift to InSEA, you are recognising the work that we do and the difference we make to people’s lives. No gift is too large or too small. Whatever the size, your gift can and will make a difference.

World Councillor: North America Region
My name is Dr. Amanda Alexander, and I am an art educator living and teaching in Oxford, Ohio. I am currently a Professor and the Chair of the Department of Art at Miami University of Ohio. My research includes exploring (inter)national and local community-based arts and learning, sustainable social and culture development, and social justice. I am completing my fourth year as World Councilor and Chair of the Membership Working Group. My roles for InSEA have included coordinating membership, assisting the treasurer, overseeing the U.S. bank account, and supporting the development of the new website as well as organizing many webinars. I will continue supporting InSEA in these ways and more. InSEA has made a profound impact on me, and I feel a duty to give back to the organization in all the ways I can.

Candidate for North America Region
As a member of InSEA, I have been a North American World Councilor for less than a year. I look forward to continuing work in our
communities and on our members' behalf and being attentive to their interests.
I am committed to supporting InSEA's social justice and advocacy role through art. I value how InSEA brings discussions and events about education through art on an international stage, promoting exchanges of practices and research. I work with the same goals in my teaching and my work in the community.
I am a visual artist, a community art practitioner, a lifelong learner, and an educator. My research interests include socially engaged art, holistic approaches to mentoring, and arts research.
A Canadian citizen, I currently live and work in Massachusetts as an Assistant Professor of Art Education at the School of Visual Arts, Boston University.

If elected to World Council I will bring enthusiasm, joy, and sincerity to engage in cross- cultural collaboration, voice to the indispensable and timely role art and the creative process play to enrich global and inclusive perspectives, and sensitivity to hear and respond to concerns of InSEA’s members. As principal co-editor of InSEA’s Art Education Visual Journal (IMAG), and section editor for InSEA’s 3rd Learning Through Art, I am grateful these publications showcase inspiring art educator stories from throughout the world and contribute to diversifying and expanding membership. To help meet InSEA’s goal to increase global access to art education, enhance professional development, and promote effective advocacy I offer my experience creating learning environments addressing aesthetic sensibility, decolonization, social and environmental justice, and the creative process; transforming two schools with diverse populations into successful integrated arts programs; and collaborating with North American and international colleagues on workshops, webinars, and publications.

I occupied the position of InSEA World Councilors for North America from 2019-2022. I was educated in Jamaica, Mexico, and the United States; taught and provided leadership in administration for over 45 years; and traveled and consulted in over 30 countries. Improving the human condition through art in teaching, research, and service is my passion. As World Councilor, I served as member
of the Boards for Research and Praxis, Publication, Editorial Board for IMAG (e-publication), and the Elections & Appointments Committee. I also collaborated with fellow councilors from North America the other regions. Working on these boards and committees and collaborating with my fellow councilors provided me opportunities to use my expertise to tackle the issues associated with
improving the human condition globally through my articles, books, meetings, presentations, and webinars. I am running again to continue this work through InSEA, especially now with the increasing global turmoil. Experience matters!

As a member of InSEA, I am privileged to participate in many dynamic and engaging events that inspire my commitment to the worldwide community of art education. My focus in research and teaching continues to advance sustainable development, knowledge commons and global citizenry, and it is in that capacity I would like to continue to contribute to the Association as a world counsellor. I believe joining together and supporting art for all opens transnational and transdisciplinary dialogues by fostering equity, diversity,
inclusivity and accessibility+ as the ethic of practice. Building on this disposition and on past experiences – community art education, conference organisation, editorial activities – I actively seek to generate exchanges and collaborations that promote greater cultural diversity, intercultural dialogues and social inclusion.

Candidate for North America Region
I am an art education professor at Brigham Young University in Utah. Before my university appointment, I was a high school art teacher in New York public schools. I am also an internationally known illustrator and a frequent exhibitor at the annual Bologna Children’s Book. My research interests include place-based education, spiritual dimensions of education, STEAM, teacher self-care, Himalayan art, and adolescent artistic development. I recently completed a Fulbright Specialist Grant in Kathmandu where I worked on developing STEAM education graduate programs. I am currently working on d STEAM education programs for Indigenous students in the Southwest United States in partnership with American Indian Services. I am keenly aware of the need for US educators to have an
international perspective education. I bring international experience in Ecuador, Nepal, Malawi, and Reggio Emilia to my work within InSEA as well as an ongoing and productive research and creative works agenda.

Since joining InSEA (2006), I serve/served in numerous roles (e.g., IJETA reviewer, editorial board member; Representative at WAAE, InSEA Newsletter editor, Publications Working Group member, InSEA research collaborator, and volunteer). In 17 years, I developed personal and professional connections with art educators throughout the world and exponentially grew as an individual and an educator. I’d like educators in my region to experience that growth and community. Along with meeting world council requirements, I’d especially work to (1) connect educators in my region with others internationally through projects for knowledge exchange, and cross-cultural & collaborative teaching, that can increase multicultural understanding, and promote diversity, and inclusion in classrooms. (2) organize InSEA panels and meetings at national conferences and (3) promote regional and international dialogue on art education’s role in addressing post-pandemic student needs and responding to emerging technologies, for expanding and sharing our goals and visions as an international community
